April 21 – April 25, 2008

 

Religion:We will begin Ch. 16 “Signs of God’s Love” pgs. 199-209 this week. The test will be on Monday, 4/28/08. Remember to check out www.FaithFirst.com for games and extra practice.  

Reading:We will read “Yeh-Shen” from the 4th grade Anthology this week. We’ll also work on the related skills in our Practice Book. There will be a quiz on Friday, 4/25/08.

 Language Arts: We will complete Section 6 - Adverbs in Voyages.  There will be a test on Friday, 4/25/08.

Social Studies: We will continue Chapter 8 this week, The Mountain Region Today .  We will also continue work on our Multicultural Week projects. If you, or anyone you know, would like to come and share your African heritage with us please contact me to set up a time! We would love to hear your personal stories.

Science: This week we’ll work on our African animal projects we’ll continue our activities in preparation for our trip to Biztown. We will create resumes and complete job applications.

Math: We will begin U. 9 Fractions, Decimals, and Percents, we will continue Subtraction Mad Minute tests.

March 10 – 14, 2008

 

Dear Parents,

As of next Friday, March 14, 2008 Weekly newsletters will no longer be passed out in class. They are available online at OLAinfo.com. Just go to the Academics page, click on 4th grade, then 4th grade website. If you do not have internet access please fill out the form at the end of this newsletter and I will continue to provide a hard copy. Thanks for your help as we make every effort to conserve our resources! Also, please note – end of 3rd Quarter is March 19, 2008! All missing work, corrected work, incomplete work must be turned in by Friday, March 14,2008 in order to receive credit! No 3rd quarter work will be accepted after next Friday!

Religion:We will complete Ch. 13 Jesus Feeds the People pgs. 163-173 this week. There will be a test on Wednesday, 3/12/08. Remember to check out www.FaithFirst.com for games and extra practice.

Reading:We will continue our novel study Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan. We will be reading in class as well as at home. Please encourage your child to keep up with the nightly reading assignments. We will be addressing new vocabulary, completing comprehension activities, and responding to several writing prompts. This novel study will fulfill the Monthly Book Report (Historical Fiction) along with 1 AR test requirements for March.

Social Studies:We will complete Chapter 6 this week, The Piedmont Region Today, we will focus on Lesson 3 and the Chapter Review.

Science:Today we made clouds with 2nd grade! Next week we will work on Lesson 6. Vocabulary will be assigned and we’ll complete the Lesson Outline.

Math:We will complete Unit 7, Fractions. There will be a test on Friday, 3/14/08.

Reading:We are beginning a new novel study Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan. We will be reading in class as well as at home. Science:We will continue the unit on The Water Cycle, on Friday we will do an experiment- making clouds. Next week we’ll begin The Weather Unit.

 

Math:We will continue Unit 7, Fractions. We’ll be working on Equivalent Fractions and converting fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. Please encourage your child to review at night to help them understand these concepts. There will be a test at the end of next week. We’ll also complete Addition Mad Minute Tests. We are looking forward to improved scores!

Happy Valentine’s Day! We will celebrate in class on Thursday afternoon. We will make Valentines, pass out our cards, and have a small treat. Please remind your child to include everyone if they are planning to pass out Valentines, a class list is attached! Have a great weekend! Unit 19 Homework will consist of the attached practice sheet along with each word written 3x and the U. 19 list written in abc order. ALL SPELLING WORK IS TO BE COMPLETED ON LOOSE LEAF PAPER AND IN CURSIVE! There will be a test on U. 19 on Friday, 2/1/08.          

Language Arts:

We will continue the next section in the Grammar half of Voyages – Adjectives. Next week we’ll focus on L. 4.7-4.9. We will also begin some Writing Projects in class in preparation for the 4th Grade Writing Assessment in the Spring.

Vocabulary:

We will complete Unit 8 together in class. Please encourage your child to study the words each night. There will be a test on Thursday,1/30/08. Extra practice is available on www.vocabularyworkshop.com.         

Social Studies:

We will begin Ch 5 “The Piedmont Region Long Ago”. We will focus on Lessons 1-2 pgs. 156-165.

Science:

We will discuss how to write introductions and conclusions. The due date for the final typed copy of the animal report will be given next week. We will also complete the Lesson Outline and Vocabulary Worksheet for Lesson 3.

Math:

We will continue U.6. We will have Study Links for Division Number Stories and Interpreting Remainders. We will also begin to use rectangular coordinate grids.

Vocabulary:We will complete Unit 7 together in class. Please encourage your child to study the words each night. There will be a test on Thursday,1/17/08. Extra practice is available on www.vocabularyworkshop.com.  

Social Studies:We will complete Chapter 4. We will focus on Lessons 3 pgs. 136-139.  

Science:Vertebrate/Invertebrate Projects:

  • We will work on our rough drafts
  • Students must have their books in class each day

Math:DIVISION BOOTCAMP will be completed next week!  It is important to review multiplication and division facts with your child daily.

 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS :        

  • The end of 2nd Quarter is quickly approaching (Thursday,1/17/08). All students were given up to date Missing Assignments Slips last week along with their grade at this point. All missing work, late work, and corrections are due by Monday, 1/14/08.

Fourth Grade Newsletter

January 3-11,2008  

 

Religion:We will begin Chapter 8 “Receive the Holy Spirit” pgs. 97-107. Remember to check out www.FaithFirst.com for games and extra practice. There will be a test on Ch.8 on Friday, 1/11/08.

Reading:We will complete The Family Under the Bridge this week in class, next week we’ll return to the 4th Grade Anthology. We’ll read The Hatmaker’s Sign and  also work on related skills in our practice books. There will be a quiz on Friday, 1/11/08.

Reading Incentive Programs:

Book It: Calendar for January is due 1/31/08 (60 minutes per week)

Accelerated Reader:  2 tests due for January by 1/31/08

January Book Report: Fantasy – Fiction books that contain elements that are not realistic, such as talking animals and magical powers. Project  Guidelines will be sent home next week. Books must be approved by Mrs. Cubit by 1/11/08.

 

Spelling:Unit 16 Homework will consist of the attached practice sheet along with each word written 3x and the U. 13 list written in abc order. ALL SPELLING WORK IS TO BE COMPLETED ON LOOSE LEAF PAPER AND IN CURSIVE! There will be a test on U. 16 on Friday, 1/11/08.

Language Arts:We will begin the next section in the Grammar half of Voyages – Adjectives. Next week we’ll focus on L. 4.1-4.3. We will also begin some Writing Projects in class in preparation for the 4th Grade Writing Assessment in the Spring.

Dear Parents,

Next week will be filled with various holiday activities. Our schedule will be interrupted by concerts, play practices and special activities. Our Class Christmas Party will take place on Tuesday afternoon. Our tentative plans for the week include:

 Religion:

We will continue our discussion of Advent and we will be reading and writing about the Christmas Story.

 Reading:

We will continue our novel study, The Family Under the Bridge by Natalie Savage Carlson. All reading and related assignments will be completed in class.
