4th Grade Procedures!

Dear Parents,

To familiarize you with some of the details of 4th grade, listed below are some procedures which I hope will be helpful:

CLASSROOM RULES:

1.      Be respectful.

2.    Be responsible.

3.    Be safe.

CLASSROOM CONSEQUENCES:

We begin each day with 5 index cards. If a student chooses to break a rule they lose a card.

Loss of:  1st card – warning

               2nd card – warning

               3rd card – note/ phone call home

4th card – note/ phone call home, loss of recess time

5th card – trip to office to call parents

 CLASSROOM REWARDS:

Students earn 1 point for each card they have remaining at the end of the day. Points will be accumulated towards class as well as individual prizes. We will decide as a class on a goal to work towards during the first week of school.

TESTS:

Spelling and Religion tests will be given every week. Tests in all other subject areas will be given as we finish each chapter. You will be given notice when tests are coming up. On Friday your child will bring home a folder containing any tests and class work from the week. Please remove the papers, sign the folder, and return it on Monday.

HOMEWORK:

Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. Occasionally there will be special projects or assignments which may need to be worked on over the weekend. All homework is due the following day unless otherwise stated. Points will be deducted each day any assignment is late. Corrections and late assignments will not be accepted after a unit or chapter test has been given.

SNACK:

We will have snack each day. If your child chooses to bring a snack please be sure it is nutritious: fruit, granola, etc.

MONEY:

If there is a need for your child to bring money to school, i.e. book orders, field trips, etc. please make sure the money is in an envelope and that the envelope is labeled.

BIRTHDAYS:

If you wish to send in an edible treat for your child to share please keep it simple. Non-edible treats such as pencils, erasers, bookmarks are a great alternative.

ABSENCES:

Please remember to call the office if your child will not be in school. Also, please send a note when your child returns. If you would like to pick up any assignments please call the office before 10:00am so that we have time to get it together. Any assignments missed due to absence are due within 5 days.

BOOK CLUB:

Scholastic order forms will be sent home about once a month. If you wish to order books please return the form with a check made payable to Scholastic Book Club by the due date.

READING INCENTIVE PROGRAMS:

We will again be participating in the Pizza Hut Book It Program as well as The Accelerated Reader Program. In addition, 4th grade students will be required to complete one book report each month. A different genre will be explored each month and a variety of assessments will be incorporated.

SPECIAL SCHEDULE:

Sincerely,

Mrs. Rosemarie Cubit
